SOUTHAM residents will get their first opportunity to see Barwood’s proposals for new homes and a Riverside Park in the town at a public consultation event this week.

Draft plans for the 12-hectare site on land south of Welsh Road West will be on display at Tithe Place on Thursday September 15th between 3pm and 8pm. .

The scheme would see up to 175 new homes constructed on the northern section of the site with up to 35% affordable housing. However, the centrepiece of the proposals is a new Riverside Park on the southern section of the site next to the River Stowe and the town’s Holy Well.

The new park, which along with other planned areas of open space, would make up over half the site and open up the area for public access and community use. Potential features including wildflower meadows, a community orchard, bird hides, and a park trail to improve and promote local wild wildlife and ecology have been put forward as part of the plans.

Comments and feedback received during the consultation will help inform and shape the final proposals, which will be submitted as an outline planning application to Stratford District Council.
